Fritz Rumey

ok, i'm going to ask my question again, seeing as how i tried last year and it closed without a single reply.

ok, fritz rumey. what i know is that:

1. born in 1891, died (killed, i should say) in 1918
2. born in konigsberg, east prussia, died when his parachute refused to work
3. 45 victories, although, like most pilots, he in an infantry regiment
4. german air service, transferred summer 1915
5. collided with an allied plane and he had to jump
6. was at jasta 2 and 5
7. wounded a month before he was killed

the picture i found online was said to be of him as well, falling from his plane. anybody can tell me anything else? it's at this link.

My Gallery
Not Fritz

It's not Fritz and I would be shocked to find out if the unfortunate pilot was made of anything more the plastic....

Pretty sure this is one of the Cockburn-Lang photos as documented here:
Death in the Air

Rumey was in Jasta 5 when he collided with SE5a E1399, flown by Lt George Edgar Bruce Lawson of No 32 Squadron RAF on 27 September 1918; Lawson reported the combat took place at 09:00 over Émerchicourt. According to information provided by the late Rick Duiven, Rumey fell "Neuville-Cambrai"; Neuville-sur-Escaut is about five miles east of Émerchicourt.

Lawson received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the citation reading "A pilot of courage and skill, bold in attack and gallant in action, who has accounted for five enemy aeroplanes. On 27th September he attacked fifteen Fokker biplanes that were harassing one of our bombing formations, driving down one in flames. He then engaged a second; in the combat the two machines collided, and the enemy aeroplane fell down completely out of control. Although his machine was badly damaged, Lieutenant Lawson successfully regained our lines."

The photograph is a well-known fake created by Wesley Archer, once a pilot in No 40 Squadron RAF, and part of the infamous Cockburn-Lange collection. Peter M Grosz was instrumental in exposing the hoax - see Cross and Cockade International volumes 16 and 17 .

While with Jasta 5, Rumey was wounded twice before his death - 25 August 1917 (shot in the foot) and 24 September 1917 (shot in the thigh).
