Surviving shot down aviatik.
The world's sole surviving Aviatik C.1 (C227/16 - Wn 832) owned by the Royal Army Museum at Brussels will be completed and restored to the highest presentations standards by the French Memorial Flight of Dugny. Aviatik C.1 C227/16 was shot down in 1916 by Belgian anti-aircraft guns near De Panne. The aircraft crashed in sea but was brought to land and ultimately ended up in the Royal Army Museum's collection. A first restoration by the Museum's volunteers prepared the aircraft for public viewing although minus its wings and other missing parts. Now Memorial Flight will complete the aircraft while the association will use the original as a template to build a replica aircraft for their own collectio

This is fantastic news! There are way too few early war aircraft extant, especially observation types. I am really excited that the MF will be doing the work! From what I have seen this is an off-white sky camoflagued machine, so I am really interested in what their researchers do for color.

Great news! Roser, do you know when the restoration will start, I've checked the Memorial Flight's site but no traces of the project. Also, you seem to know the subject, could you tell us more about the plane? Could you post some photos?

Hi,
Nice to see my news item reproduced here.
The Aviatik is already prepared for transportation which should be done very soon. Next week I will take a picture of the machine before it is out of sight for a couple of years during restoration and post it here.
Best regards,
Daniel

Hi Toxisch,
any photos yet ?
can't wait to see the airplane ready to move .
Do you know if the plane will be present at MFA in Dugny for the museum's open day next month? If so I will try to go. Some one said they also have a BE2F beside their LVG C VI ! sounds interesting.

Hi Loire,
I have to be honest I was too busy this week in the museum so that I didn't had the time to make some pics. I will see if I can't get some from a colleague
Best regards,

Hi Loire,
I managed to obtain some pics of the Aviatik taken by my friend Yves Duwelz.
The background is rather cluttered. This is because the machine resides now in the restoration area where a lot of work is going on.
Best regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
thanks for the photos. This restoration will be a tremendous opportunity to have an in deep view of one of the oldest surviving WWI plane. I understand that being a recce/bomber bird and not a fighter, people don't seems to show too much interest around the community, but anyway, lets enjoy
Tom, thanks for your words.

 This is great news!
I hope both you & toxisch will keep us informed of its progress.
I agree we need more 2 seaters restored.
At least over in New zealand they have some restored & Replicas of these "workhorses" of WW1.
