Breguet's Aircraft ID Challenge # 779

Hi All:

David may still be sick, so I offer this one while he recovers. This one is pretty easy, so a non-ace victory is certainly a possibility.

Dave

Previous: Aeroplanes 1914 - 1918* -* Breguet's Aircraft Challenge* --

Quote:
The Rules of the Challenge are:

-The thread title must be "Bréguet's Aircraft ID Challenge #......"
-The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
-The completed aircraft must have been either; designed, built or have left the ground during the '14-'18 period and be identifiable by the poster.
-The photo must show the whole aircraft - from whatever angle, or at least 2 views of a 3 view drawing (photo by preference).
-Challenges which depict a machine already earlier presented are disqualified (always check the list at Aeroplanes 1914 - 1918* -* Breguet's -Aircraft Challenge* -- when in doubt !).
-If there is any doubt as to the eligibility of an aircraft for the challenge details should be PM'd to Breguet BEFORE the aircraft is submitted.
-Once someone has got 5 correct answers under their belt they become an ACE. Once they become an ACE they must wait 12hrs after the posting of the new challenge before they can post an answer.
-To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.-The first person to ID the challenge correctly gets to post the next challenge. If this can not be done for any reason Breguet himself will post the next challenge.
-If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next one. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
-The final arbiter in relation to questions about the rules is BREGUET.

Hi Dave,

Yes I have been sick - almost better now, so thank you for posting this photo. I keep checking the list to make sure that the photo I have chosen has not been used before but I find it to be a difficult and time consuming process, which I haven't completed yet, sorry! Also I keep falling asleep due to the illness, it really drains me. I am so sorry it has taken so long guys but while you are identifying the current photo Dave has posted it will give me a chance to look through the list. There has to be an easier way! Maybe you guys who have followed the challenge more or less from the start are more familiar with the photographs which have been used.

Cheers,

David.

IIRC Yavor has copied the past challenges into an Excell spreadsheet. If you have Excell on your computer, perhaps you can PM him and request it.

Cheers
Rod

Hi Rod,

Thank you very much for that information! I was thinking about re writing it somehow, say in alpha - numerical order, but if the previous ID challenges have been copied into an Excel spreadsheet, that is just as good because I could do a search using keywords or the name of the aeroplane. This is one of the features of Excel isn't it? It's been a while since I have used it, but I am sure that it can be used as a database as well as a simple spreadsheet. You know, a lot of seemingly simple computer programs have a lot of capabilities which most of us are not aware of. If you've ever seen the "Easter Eggs" hidden within Word and Excel you will know what I mean. They are brilliant, and quite sophisticated. Word has a pinball game hidden within the coding and Excel has a moonscape type flight simulator hidden within the coding.

Regards,

David.

I've only ever seen that sort of engine installation in a Salmson A2. Is the DXVI significant?

G'Day Mate,

Ya, I'm pretty sure that the "DXVI" stands for Hanriot-Dupont HD.9Ap 1!
The 260-h.p. Salmson (Canton-Unne) nine-cylinder water cooled radial engine does make this one rather unique.
As does the single bay, cabane struts, louvered cowling, wing shape and center-section cut-out, fuselage shape, and tailplane.

Cheers, FOKKERJ

You can get the same search ability by copying and pasting the pages into a word processing program such as Word. Maybe easier than Excel.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the great challenge.
I thought that Breguet had it in the bag.

Kees, watch out, I'm closing in on your position.

G'Day david,

I hope that you are feeling better now.
Reminds me of when I had the dreaded Mononucleosis.
I slept alot, followed by more sleep, and then some more.

I am still looking for a suitable challenge image to post for the #780.
If you have something ready Please let us know here and I will catch another one. Thanks.

Cheers, Jay aka FOKKERJ Feuchtwanger

Hi Dave,

I clicked on your ID, so that I could send you an e-mail (my PM inbox is full, sorry, so I can't send you a PM just at the moment) but I don't seem to be able to send you an e-mail.

Hi Jay,

I left a message for you on my notice board or whatever it is, saying that I could e-mail you the photo I took for challenge #780. I tried to attach it but was not able to attach it in the new thread I created, for some reason. If you would like me to send the photo by e-mail, just send me an e-mail at david.g.mcguinness@hotmail.com and I will send the photo to you.

Regards,

David.
