From left to right it is Kurt Wolff; then some unidentified Austro-Hungarian officer on a visit; then Constantin Krefft, the technical officer for Jasta 11 and later JG I; then old what's-his-name.
Date? Some time after Kurt Wolff's award of the Blue Max on 4 May 1917 and his death on 15 Sept 1917. He was away at Jasta 29 from May to 28 June 1917, then back to be CO of Jasta 11 from 28 June to 11 July when he was wounded. Then back at Jasta 11 for a very short stretch, 11 Sept to 15 Sept. +

Before the award??? It looks as if KW is wearing the Blue Max in this photo.

i think when they are in a "trip" in the Austro-Hungarian air force! MAYBE! but not sure!
i found a picture when Manfred hand was broken and his head was wounded(but not the 1917 case) the picture said: "German air ace Baron Manfred von Richthofen (1882 - 1918), famous as 'The Red Baron', in hospital, 1916."

No, I meant to say after the award of the Blue Max!! Thanks for catching me on that, FliegerJG I. I'm just too tired; gotta stop trying to do so much..I've amended my post.
I'm very sure this photo was taken on the Western Front and the A-H airman was visiting...
Happy 4th, everybody!

Was this picture published in a book? This does not sound like MvR and there have been incorrectly captioned photos claiming to be an image of the Red Baron. Just wondering.....

Thanks!
thank you greg, that makes great sense. i didn't know wolff [was he the only one the baron called 'wolfchen'?] died that early.
and thanks FJG1 and MvRHU for guidance to other published pics with idents. i'm trying to pin some of MvRs flight-mates down for contemporaneous uniform shots and comparisons.
just because others may be interested also, may i expose my ignorance here greg, and other authorities of the period, and just ask dumb questions?

richthofen was born in 1892, not 1882, so they got that wrong.
otherwise, i don't see any evidence as to when they visited an austrian air field, if any. maybe it was the other way around.
as for kurt wolff and the plm...well, i think someone mentioned already that it was may 4, 1917. also looks like it was before richthofen was wounded in july, 1917. either way, it was between may and august, if that, of 1917.
