attaching upper wing

What is the best way to attach the upper to the lower wing? Do I attach the interplane struts to the lower wing first? Or do the struts go on the upper wing?

As for the cabane struts: I assume they go on the fuselage and then attach to the upper wing.... I know these sound like dumb questions, but the only biplane kit I built recently is the Accurate miniatures F3F-1...to say it was a breeze is an understatement.

Even though the eduard Hanriot is a well engineered kit, it is much more challenging than the F3F.

thanks

The Hanriot has an "A" frame cabane with extra struts arranged so they will form a "W" when finished. I plan to fit the A frame, place the upper wing and then attach the W struts. Once that's firmly attached, I'll do the interplane struts.

That's the first kit I used my Aeroclub jig on.

It had sat on the shelf of doom for a year after earlier failed attempts at assembly,no doubt my fault.I would rig up a jig of some sort to get the cabane assembled correctly and let it dry well, then go on to the interlpane-there should be plenty of give to set them in.I also overtightened the last run of rigging on mine and managed to snap half the struts in pieces. This was also the first kit I used Strutz on.
Cheers and good luck Mike,
Dave.

So, I guess it makes sense to attach the cabane struts first, then do the interplane struts.....sounds good!

Hi Mike.

As modellers, we all have different ways of doing things.

I fit the cabane struts first making sure they are at the correct angle and alignment.
I then fit the interplane struts again checking the angles and the alignment.
Once the glue has properly cured and the struts are firm then it is time to assemble the top wing.
I don't know what scale you are working with but with my 1:32 scale WW1 aircraft the struts are strong enough to fit the top wing without the use of a jig. Once the glue has set it is a simple matter of attaching the rigging which will add a great deal of strength to the entire assembly.
Like Dave said, don't over tension the rigging, it will pull the wings out of alignment and can twist or break the struts.
My website might give you some clues on fitting the top wing and doing the rigging.
Good luck with your build.

Des.

You don't have to, but it's a great help to have one

Hi Mike !

All of my builds I start with the cab struts first and work my way out to the wing tips . You can use a wing jig if you want to .
