Smythe's/ Rickenbacker's Nieuport
I have some decals from a Glenco Nieuport 28 kit. One of the profiles provided is a Nieuport 28 flow by Rickenbacker and later Smythe. The profile shows a solid color (brown?) cowling but does not show if the color carries back farther than the cowling.
Is there a source/photo of this plane that shows the right side?
Thanks,
CWatson

95th AERO SQUADRON ("The Kicking Mule").
Hello CWatson,
I can't help you out on this, but PLEASE let me know if you would like to sell the decals for the 95th AERO SQUADRON ("The Kicking Mule").
It seems as if all of the Nieuport 28's that I pick up have plenty of the 94th "Hat In The Ring" decals.
Cheers, Jay aka FOKKERJ
P.S. What a coincidence!!!!

I forgot to ask, would the number 16 have been carried on the upper wing ?
If so what color?

both sides????
I have the Glenco kit and decals also, but I can't get to it right now....so let me say that the Standard Ni28 cowl was finish in two colors chestnut brown and dark green....Imagine the Ni28 facing left, that side of the cowl would be the chestnut brown. with the NI-28 facing to the right that side of the cowl would be dark green, from above and below the colors almost split the cowl 50-50 at 12 and 6 o'clock.
Now as far as how far they went back along the fuselage the chestnut brown extends to the cockpit coaming and the down to the trailing edge of the lower wing. the line between the 2 points looks like a "3" with the center point of the "3" not so sharp and pointed.
On the Dark Green side the green extends back to about midway down the length of the fuselage and ends in ">" shape but of course not as sharp.
Hope that is clear enough.
Cant speak for the particular Ni-28 your talking about But from what I can see 95th Aero Squadron carried White number shadowed in red on the fuselage with white wing numbers outlined in red.
Flypaper
just another small point the colors on the METAL part of the cowl would be slightly different the the dark green and chestnut brown carried on the rest of the aircraft. The paint used on the cowl would NOT have the aluminum powder in it like rest of the A/C I feel, and this is just me, the cowl paints would be slightly darker (more saturated) and when new would be glossy;

Thanks Flypaper,
But the instructions are vague on this aircraft. The profile of this aircraft in the Glenco kit shows a solid cowl, brown but only from the front. I am clear on how the left side of the aircraft shold look but since the cowling has been overpainted I was wondering if the carried the brown onto fuselage on the right side of this aircraft.
Thanks,
CW

OK I dug out the kit. I take it your doing white "16"....If you look above the black and white side view you will see the Ni 28 color pattern, notice the cowl is split green brown. and if you look at the white "2" scheme you will see how the cowl colors split at 6 & 12 o'clock, as a matter of fact look at the back of the box at "2" and "5" thats how the colors should look since this aircraft 16 did not have a color finished cowl.
To be honest why would you do such a plane jane? if you want to do Rickenbacker do "1" with the red white and blue cowl or the CO's aircraft of the 95th with the commanders stripe. I have a photo of it and the finish is completely legit.
And welcome to the world of a reissued AURORA kit from the 50's....The only reason I bought it was the great decal sheet it alone is worth the price....By he way so is the SPAD decal sheet from Glenco.
