Handley Page C9734 (or C9736)
Good evening.
Can anyone help me ID this crashed Handley-Page? I believe the serial # is either C9734 or C9736. I am unsure of the last digit.
There is a crowd of officers standing at front wearing trench coats, another guy walking under the wing wearing typical field uniform w/ helmet & a small group of soldiers standing under the tail section in formation with an NCO standing out in front. All of these soldiers are wearing field uniforms, helmets & gas mask bags.
Regards,
Chuck

I doubt this will help but let me try anyway. Is it any easier to see the numbers? I really need a better photo editing program other than microsoft office picture manager...

C9734 was with No 215 Sqn RAF and failed to return from a raid on Kaiserslautern railway junction on 23 October 1918. The crew is given as Lt E Lorimer, 2nd Lt R H Bruce and Lt C E Thompson.

Graeme-
Thank you for this information. Do we know if Lorimer, Bruce or Thompson survived this incident? It looks like they very well could of...
Cheers!

Hi Chuck
If this is their aeroplane, the landing doesn't seem to have been too severe. Been looking in all the usual places and can't see any of them listed as fatalities, so it would seem all three were taken prisoner.

I really appreciate the effort!
I forgot to mention that I have a copy of The Sky Their Battlefield on its way from England. I just ordered it last week. Does that highly acclaimed reference work also cover POWs?
Cheers!

OK. I just checked the above reference & did not see any of these names listed there as either KIA or POW.

Chuck
