Hi

I wonder anyone knew in which unit he served in from Sept 1918 until EOW..?

I have some old notes without references, so any help is grateful also regarding his earlier service in 1918...

I knew there exists another Oblt zS von Roques, but I think this is the "right" guy..

???

Hi Gunnar and Rick,

here goes my turn : I have a pic of Oberleutnant zur See Rocques, but I don't know the first name.
The photo was very probably taken in April or May 1918 with Seeflugstation Zeebrügge.

SFS Borkum
SEE I (Flandern)
3 C. Staffel CO. ('18) - EOW

Pretty slim pickings! R.

Hi Rick and Mosen and others..

Mosen, that photo could be a vital "evidence", Have you opportunity to check if this von Roques(presumly Joachim) is among the flyers on page 41 in Propellerblatt Nr 1 from 2001...?

Joachim von Roques was born 22 Apr 1891, do anyone has his place of birth..?
He started his service in 1914 in SFS(Sea Flying Station) Holtenau but was already chosen to take the command(?) of the SFS stationed on the German Air battle-ship-cruiser "Answald" in Jan 1915..
Already on 2 May 1915 he was promoted to Oblt zS but was captured by the Russian in late Oct 1915....does anyone knew the actual date, his companion, a/c serial or the circumstances which brought him down..????

When returning from captivity in spring 1918 his fysical condition ought to have been rather low...
But I think there is a possibility that he served shortly or in some way in See I at Seebrügge in late spring and summer 1918...but I cant find any clear notes that he served there yet...must searched through my notes better...grmp.. :P

Rick, the other von Roques, Helmuth(O) most certain never served in Seebrügge according to my notes...
If I remember correct from the KTB(War Diary) of SFS Borkum he served there until EOW...
But there is always a possibility that he made some visits in Seebrügge...
Helmuth was born two Years later on 14 April and was promoted Oblt on 25 Dec 1917...

Anyone who can help with information on these two von Roques are welcome..!

Rick, Gunnar and others,

C-Staffels of SFSt Borkum and SFSt Flandern II changed from May18 till June18. Maybe that's why Roques also was a brief time with Flandern II.

Gunnar,
I only have a negative film of Roques what will make a print and mail it to you.

Watch: we have no "von Rocques" in the German telephon directory but "von Roques".
I am going to contact them ...

Mosen

I will be very glad to have a copy of the von Roques photo...

Meanwhile, I did find some proofs that Oblt von Roques actually served in See I, before he assumed another command...

On 18 Apr 1918 von Roques was posted to I SFA(Seefliegeabteilung), however possible unit is not mentioned.

On 4 June 1918 he was posted over to the Western front to Kofl MK(Flanders).
A few days later(9 June 1918) he was posted further to the Grufl See(sea plane units), eventually joining See I within a day or two..?

When Christiansen left on a duty travel to Warnemünde on 19 June 1918, Oblt von Roques was appointed temporary commander...!
Then on 9 July 1918 he was transferee to FP(Flugpark) 4 for training on light land based a/c

Anyone knew when he returned..?

I have assumed that the above mentioned von Roques in all cases is Joachim..

???

Hi again

I have also found a confirmation that Lt zS Joachim von Roques become commander of the SFS(Sea Flying Station) on "Answald" when the unit was formed on 12 Febr 1915.

I also found that Joachim was captured on 30 Oct 1915 in the "Rigaischer Meerbusen" together with his observer Masch.Mt Friedrich Stöckler.
They were flying a/c 473.
Does anyone knew if they were claimed by Russian Naval flyers..??

The original question about Joachims service in late summer of 1918, still remains unsolved...No one has any clue..?

???
