Fok DR.1 521-17 query

Hi Guys and girls.

Biulding my Roden 1/32 Focker DR.1 and am almost at the paint it stage.
I don't want no glaring Faux pas so any info would be appreciated.

I''m building her as Robert Greim's 521-17 Silver tail and red bands. The only info I have are the two pics in the Jagdstaffeln book.

Any fiurther info would be appreciated

i.e:
was the wing streaking camo angled of straight...I know most were at a 15 or so degree angle?

Was the Undercarriage wing all olive or blue under?

Lower wing cross fields...unbleached or overpainte?

Any other plane specific info gladly taken

Cheers Keith

Hello Keith. The wings were streaked at an angle topside. The fuselage sides were streaked vertically straight. Since this triplane had changed to the balkenkreuz, the lower wing cross fields would be overpainted light blue with white outlined black cross. Topwing cross fields would be overpainted solidly with light green paint and a white outlined black cross. Topside of fuselage is streaked at an angle covering roughly half the cockpit opening rearward with the forward half of cockpit and under the guns a solid Fokker green. My source of info is page 179 of Paul Leaman's "Fokker Dr.I Triplane" and Norman Franks, Greg VanWyngarden's "Fokker Dr I Aces of WW I" pages 43 and 95. Looking at photo 34/5 in Greg's "Fokker DR.I Jagdstaffeln" the leading edge of the undercarriage wing is a solid color so in all probability is all green. You can compare this with photo 34/6 where a definite division line between the green topside and blue underside of undercarriage wing is clearly visible. Greim's triplane also had green undercarriage struts and wheelcovers. I seem to recall Stephan Lawson mentioning that the angle of the streaking on the topwings was one rib in width from leading edge to the trailing edge of on each wing. (Hello Stephan please refresh my memory on this.) Rudder was white not silverish as rear fuselage and tailplane. Hope this is some help to you. Best regards, Dave.
