Breguet's Aircraft ID Challenge #646
Sorry that the only pictures I have of this machine are so small, but I will make up for it by giving two views. It may be a bit difficult, but the pictures are on the web.

Prevoius challenges are at Aeroplanes 1914 - 1918* -* Breguet's Aircraft Challenge* --
Please,don't forget the RULES:
1.The thread title must be "Bréguet's aircraft ID challenge #......"
2. The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3. The completed aircraft must have been either; designed, built or have left the ground during the '14-'18 period and be identifiable by the poster.
4. The photo must show the whole aircraft - from whatever angle, or at least 2 views of a 3 view drawing (photo by preference).
5. Challenges which depict a machine already earlier presented are disqualified
6. (always check the list at earlyaviator.com/br.challenge when in doubt !)
7. If there is any doubt as to the eligibility of an aircraft for the challenge details should be PM'd to Breguet BEFORE the aircraft is submitted.
8. Once someone has got 5 correct answers under their belt they become an ACE. Once they become an ACE they must wait 12hrs after the posting of the new challenge before they can post an answer.
9. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
10. The first person to ID the challenge correctly gets to post the next challenge. If this can not be done for any reason Breguet himself will post the next challenge.
11. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next one. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
12. The final arbiter in relation to questions about the rules will be Breguet.

The machine dates from 1918. The designer did a monoplane immediately before this one. Those were his only two, at least in this time period.

Another minor tid-bit about this machine - it made its first flight on the historic date of Nov. 11, 1918. Probably not at 11AM though.

Well Ron, just so you don’t feel lonely, I will speculate that you have already submitted the monoplane to the Challenge, and that both are from South America.
Being basically lazy, I will propose that this is a Alvear biplane from Brazil, the monoplane being the first I encountered when I went looking.

Dave, you make some very astute assumptions, but the monoplane has not been posted (yet) and Alvear was not the designer. However, both machines were identified by a name, not a number, and both names (of the machines, not the designer) started with the letter "A".

RBailey, I plumped in this one and I see you have been generous with hints.
So we are looking at:
- first flight on November 11, 1918
- name of this machine starts with an A
- this BIPLANO was the second design of this designer, the first design being a MONOPLANO
- probably this designer made other machines after 1918
I assume we are looking in at an Argentine, Brazilian or Mexican plane.
Cheers
Kees

Not Mexico, as that is North America.
A possible name: águila
No closer to the rest of the puzzle

Sure we need Historia de la aviación here to solve this riddle.
I have the feeling that we are looking at an Argentine biplane [BIPLANO].
AFAIK Mexico is Middle America ?
Cheers
Kees

Actually, it is all on-line. You just have to find it.

Just to keep this alive, here is a 3-view drawing of the xxxxxxx A....., not that it will help. But everything you need to find this machine on-line is in Dave's speculations and my hints. So far as I can find, there were only two machines designed by this designer.
