Fokker streaking

Searched the Drome and think I have a fair feel for how the DR-1 was painted. However, there's reality and today's non-dope paints. What are other builders/restorers of Triplanes doing to get the streaking effect?

Any help would be much appreciated as there's a terribly painted replica I may be able to save.

cheers, Boom
