Collishaw's Retirement

I've been doing some surfing on the net about Collishaw and it is frequently mentioned that he was "involuntarily" retired from the RAF in 1943, and this descriptor comes from his autobiography. It seems to me extremely unusual for a highly decorated, proven combat leader of senior rank to be forced out at such a relatively young age during wartime. Does anyone have any insight as to what the circumstances might have been?

Mike Westrop does. Try him at the Great War Forum.
