MLF AWARD for 2009 NATS
The Michael L Fritz Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in modeling of World War I Aircraft, is Harvey Low from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The winning model is a 1/72 Vickers Gun Bus, it is pictured elsewhere on the drome in : Photos from the Nats Part 5, 4th picture down. It started out as a Pegasus vac-u-form! Congrats to Harvey, He is the 20th winner of the MLF, which is the longest running consecutive specialty award at the IPMS-USA Nats. It is unique in that only the previous winners of the MLF award pick the next recepient, making it one of the hardest to win awards. Harvey will join the previous winners at following conventions for the next selection. This is another unique aspect in that once won, that builder is a forever judge and thus ineligible for a second MLF award. This was part of the original requirements of the sponsoring IPMS SPruce Goose chapter and the namesakes deathbed wish, to aid in expanding interest in WWI aircraft modeling. The gun bus also took a first in the 1/72 rigged category.

I saw pictures of that Gunbus, Sir. It is one helluva model, and Mr. Low deserves recognition for it!

Mes amis!
Congratulations to Harvey Low, a friend of my late father Ron Lowry who was a winner of the Michael L. Fritz Memorial Award (which I display proudly), for the excellent build of the Vickers F.B.5.
Ron would have been proud to see you win that award Harvey.
Salut!
Kirk

Well Done to Harvey: an excellent model indeed. He should bottle all of that talent and sell it to us lesser mortals...!
Kirk, I had the pleasure of meeting your father some years ago: a real gentleman, and a consummate modeller. He continues to inspire me in my humble efforts.

That was a really nice piece of workmanship there! The Lohner was pretty nice too, are there any picture of it?

Thank you gentlemen for all your kind comments...
It was an honour to be a recipient of this award. What makes it special is that it is for a fitting memorial to Michael, who I did not know, but who was clearly a huge talent and commited in his passion for the hobby as I am. There were many other well deserving masterpieces that I saw at Columbus, so I am honoured you all thought mine deserving. It is also presonally special, as Kirk mentions, as I am a freind of the late Ron Lowry, who was a true inspiration to me and my fellow modellers in our local IPMS chapter here in Toronto Canada (Kirk, I hope this email finds you and your family well). This award simply inspires and that is what this is all about. Cheers guys and thanks! - Harvey
