Windsock Datafiles 34 and 80 are on the Sopwith Strutter, that's volume 1 and 2. There is a reprint of the Royal Air Force Technical Notes for the One and half Strutter available too. You should find those online at places such as the Ian Allan Publishing site.

You'll probably also find Squadron/Signal Number 110 - 'Sopwith Fighters in Action' on that site too. It has a little bit on the Strutter in it, although the focus is on other more 'fighterish' types. somewhat bizarrely, there are only two pictures of a Strutter in the big hardback Jane's Fighting Aircraft of WW1, so that's not much use.

If you are searching for info on it, don't forget to try searching for 'Sopwith LCT' of course, since 'One and a Half Strutter' was not its real designation but its common nickname; as you may know, it was really called the Sopwith LCT (Land Clerget Tractor), designating its type, engine and configuration. You might also try searching for 'Sop. 1.A2' 'Sop, 1B.2' and 'Sop, 1B.1' - these were the designations of the French recce, bomber and single-seater versions.

Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter

If the information you require is simply technical then this will not be of much interest.

Into the Blue by McMillain relates what it was like to fly and fight from a pilot's point of view. Example it was possible to over-ride front gun synch. in order to increase rate of fire. Holes in prop but never shot it off.

An Airman's Outing With The RFC, June-December 1916 by Alan Bott relates flying and fighting from the point of view of the observer.

Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter

Thank you for that information. I am looking for pictures of different personal designs that the English pilots used on their Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutters ie. (the chicken out of the egg.)
I have just finished the Proctor model and I am ready to paint on the roundels, stripes, and an original English design if I can find one.
The French seem to have had more tolerance toward their pilots when it came to personalizing their WW1 aircraft but I would like to stick with the English layout. If push comes to shove I will use a French layout.
Thanks
