Wingnut LVG Engine

Hello everyone,
After finally completing the wing decals I have been able to finish the engine. Its from the box with the exception of the wiring and some weld detail on the exhaust.

regards David

Great work! Beautiful!
But what really baffles me is the wood work on the fuselage. How did you achieve this...????

That is beautful work, my friend. How did you get the wood grain look on that kit?

Truly outstanding! The rust effect on the exhaust is particularly realistic. Can't wait to see the finished product. And yes, I am still in awe of your woodgrain...

David, Allow me to add my congratulations on your work to date. This is much the same engine as in the Junkers D.1, so I am very interested in your methods. A few questions: what did you use for the wiring, if out of the ordinary; from what material did you fashion the horizontal wire "protector"; and what was your technique for representing the spark plug connectors. All very well done!

Thanks Gents for all your kind words.
The woodgrain is just hand painted using Lifecolor acrylics - I will be putting together a step by step guide to this in my article in AIR Modeller (once I get this finished).
I made the wiring from some thin solder wire. The protector strip was cut from plasticard and the six lengths of wire glued behind. The connection to the magneto was handled separately - I glued six lengths of wire together in parallel and then roughly bent them to shape. I spread out the ends to the rough round pattern of the magneto then jammed the whole lot in place. As long as the two or so visible wires line up with the magneto then the rest are mostly hidden - it saves a lot of swearing doing it this way. With that in place the protector was fitted and the wires glued to the spark plugs. A coat of Mr Surfacer 1200 around the connection just thickens the wire enough to create the connector. Watch out though for the two sets of pipes that fit in front of the wires - I had to adjust the position of a couple of wires to get these to fit.
regards David
