Mystery Albatros D.III

Does anyone recognize this Albatros D.III or the personnel in this fotograf?

Thanks in advance for all informations.

At first I thought that it might be from Jasta 12, now I am not so sure.

Best Wishes, Jay

Hi Jay,

No mystery at all!

The Albatros D.III is Ltn.Carl (Karl) Allmenröder's D.629/17 of Jasta 11. That "Karlchen" Allmenröder on the right, with Ltn. Hans-Helmuth von Boddien on the left. The fuselage was overpainted deep red (including the national insignia) while the nose and elevator were white to identify Allmenröder's aircraft from other red-painted Jasta 11 Albatrosse.

Note the wear on the red paint just beneath the cockpit; Jasta 11 pilots generally used ladders to climb into their D.III's, and this shows where either the ladder or their boots repeatedly scraped the fuselage side.

Where did you find the nice scan??

Thanks Greg,

That was quick!
I deleted my guess that it probably was Jasta 11!

This is the cropped version of a larger item, I am still waiting for the fotograf.
Some countries take longer in the Post than others in the same area.
I will just keep my fingers crossed that it arrives to my hands safely.

Best Wishes, Jay

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the information.
It arrived safely yesterday. The fofograf is approximately 5" x 7" and is an older print.

Best Wishes, Jay

I found an image in "The GERMAN Army Air Service in World War One" by R.L. RIMELL.
It's about as cropped as the version that I have shared.

I went ahead and posted this because I was making a reply to another thread and accidently posted it here!

It looks like that Austo-Hungarian camo (Sworl Pattern)!

Yes it is a distortion.
