What is this contraption?

Ok....so what is this contraption? At first glance I thought they were the traditional flare rack, but its not. Almost looks like a primitive bomb rack from which bombs would be hung and dropped when each handle is pulled. Anyone know for sure??

This didn't work, to see the image go to the album with the iron cross, its image number 54.

Edit: That doesn't work either,

To get there from the OP link, click on the first thumb with an Iron cross,
Fotoalbum eines unbekannten Fliegers
(58 Bilder)
then scroll down to picture #54.

Do you mean this one?

Is this a bomb-rack with release handles?
I'm not the expert for weapons here.
There are others who might know more about.

Cheers

Eureka!! Thats the one! Thanks for the assistance, I couldn't get it to post either.

ZZ.

So.......what the heck is that?

PS...If you look over his shoulder you can just make out a similar device on the other side....soooooooo, I'm thinking bomb dropper, cause why would you need one on each side, other than to balance the weight out?

I am going to guess here, but it looks like the bottom of those handles
is an open hook. When the handle is pulled back, the "loop" opens and
the (bomb) is released. I would think the other side is more for capacity
than balance.

This would seem to be an early but well-crafted "add-on" rather than a purpose-built bomber.

Okay, now the challenge is to determine what type of plane this is. Maybe someone has a photo of the entire aircraft.

Judging from the cockpits and the centre-strut positions I would go for an
Albatros B.II. The C-types mostly have gun-rings mounted.

What do the crash-file specialists say?

Cheers

Those bombs were just hanging there. They must have been able to move around quite freely. Can you imagine flying around with those bombs right next to you clanking together as you flew!
