Help with a Curtiss H.16 from a US unit

If anybody has a upper view of a US Curtiss H.16 operating in Europe during WWI and possibly seeing real war action, please tell me or send me it in private email (angiolino(at)gmail.com). Any reference to pilots, units and such are also welcome.

Thanks a lot and all the best,

Andrea

H-16

The H-16 was in use in the final days of the War. They were held up due to problems with props and parts. The supply line was not all it should have been.

Some got to France, the UK including Ireland. See my article "Killingholme Diary" in Cross & Cockade.

What are you looking for?

Thanks a lot for answering me!

I am not doing anything serious as your books and articles. I am just doing an expansion kit about multi-engine planes for my little card game "Wings of War".

At the last minute I managed to sneak in a Curtiss H.16. We have a upper view on the cardboard piece and we usually feature names of crews, units and air services on it, when known. Something like these (a front and a rear):

Alas this is a last minute addition and time is very short. In Rome we don't have an aviation bookshop any more and no reference libraries where to find specialist magazines and books. Mail orders are great, but far too slow in this situation.

In the meantime our artist made an all pale gray H.16 like this one:

There is a Roden kit featuring such a plane (but I never saw it with tat finish) with A-1032 codes and the reference "A-1032 Lough Foyle, 1918".

Any help in deciding what to write in this very card? Something like "Lough Foyle Naval Air Station - United States Naval Air Service"? Or any unit name? Any crew name?

Sorry to bother you for just a silly game piece... And thanks so much!

H-16

Andrea

Don't aapologise about a little game, if it gets people interested in WWI Aviation then it is a winner! I came into the research side of things via plastic modelling.

The H-16 were US Navy blue-grey overall.

Cheers

Colin
