THE RULES

1. All aircraft are of the 14-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
2. The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
4. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in its identification.
5. And whom ever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
6. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
7. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the next crash for your discerning (or disecting) minds to evaluate.
Good hunting,

Hello,

I believe this is Albatros C.VII fitted with unusual for this type leading edge radiator and without the spinner (tricky ). Shape of wings, interplane struts, center section struts and overall shape of the fuselage indicate Albatros C-type. Width of the front section of a fuselage and location of the edge between a side wall and a “turtle deck” seem to be typical for C.VII.

Greetings

Marek

Hello Rufe,

Albatros C.VII.
The balanced ailerons, nose, and what appears to be the "Elephant Ear" radiators mounted on the fuselage.

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ

My bet is an Albatros C.X because of the horizontal intake manifold of the Mercedes D.IVa of 260 hp. The challenge machine definitely has no Benz with Y-shaped manifolds, so it is no C.VII either.
There is no side radiator because of the tube running from the front of the engine to the top wing into the airfoil wing radiator = C.X.
Also the span of the aileron outside of the balance is too small for a C.VII.

Congratulations are in order for one of you, however, I will wait to the next post to declare the winner.

The key to this plane is in the aileron cutout, in the wing, which my poor
attempt at humor and a clue refers to in the first post (disecting minds).

The angles of the cutout allow for one obvious choice. Notice they are not
parallel.

The spinner is missing from the crash, most likely, and the shapes on the side
are puzzling.

Good guesses all around. You had the manufacturer nailed solid.

I don't have a good picture of a C. X handy, but the nose is that of a C.VII, not a XII.
The ailerons are like the C.XII, so it must be a C.X like Flamingo said.

Flamingo gets another point!

Congratulations are due to Flamingo! It is an Albatros C.X

FokkerJ, your reasoning is quite accurate.
To continue the clues to narrowing this down, are the aileron cutout,
as I mentioned earlier, which eliminates the C.VII, and the Cabane struts
arraingement, which eliminates the C.XII.

Here is the full picture, with the tail.
