Morane Saulnier Parasol L

Hello,
some years ago, indeed years
I asked for information about the Morane Saulnier Parasol L we were going to build in our school full scale.
I can not post the URL here, it's forbidden for me nothing posting enough
Well, google on "66599-morane-saulnier-parasol-1-1-schoolproject" and have a look at the first find you have to see how far we are right now !
Sorry but text is in Dutch, but images will tell most you want to know.
It's not made at the inside as it once was, we want it to look as close as possible at the outside. Remember we are a technical school in Ieper, teaching youngsters between 12 and 18 years and some teachers who never built such things. We were just intrigued trying to do it and have a lot of fun doing it. I'm sure others can do better, but we are beginners.

We are already thinking about getting it painted, so if anyone here can help us with the color scheme that would be nice.
Please contact me also at jvb at digilife.be, so I won't miss any answers. I'm busy elsewhere too.

Greetings and thanks.

MORANE-SAULNIER L Schüle Projekt

Hello JVB,

Welcome back to the Aerodrome.
I have posted both addresses below, I'm not sure of any difference, but posted them both anyways.
Very nice work, engine runs, scratch built propeller, lots of detail. You all must be very proud. The students must be very comfortable working on this project in their socks with no shoes on their feet!
The copper tubing intakes must have been fun to bend and fabricate, very soft metal. the engine looks very nice.

There is a famous Morane-Saulnier L with English markings that is credited with shooting down a Zeppelin. Also many early jobs in German service I believe. It should be fun deciding on a paint scheme.

Thanks for sharing the great site, FOKKERJ

Fantastisch project Johan!!!

thanks FokkkerJ

in fact we are reconstructing the plane of Georges Guynemers first victory, as I do live in Poelkapelle where he felt and I'm a member of the commemoration comité.
And we possessed such a still running motor thanks to the care of three generations of teachers.
Thanks for adding the links.

Hello Johan

Here is a french site were you will find photos of guynemer's morane parasol L
L'escadrille SPA 3

and a colour profile of Guynemer's Morane L

This Morane L serial 39, was the morane L piloted by Corporal Guynemer while in escadrille MS3
It was finished overall in clear doped linen-Cowling,wheel covers, and all struts finished in black
Roundels appeared on wing in four positions-Soon after Guynemer mounted a Lewis gun to this aircraft, he and his gunner, jean Guerder, shot down an ennemy aviatik in flames near Soissons on 19 july 1915, for Guynemer's first victory

hello guys,

Im eclipse86 from that link and posted our school pictures. I fly little rc plane's to and have got the plans for a 72" morane saulnier. I hope we can build it to in the same class with other students. I already found a link to a english build tread.(sorry i can't post it on this site??!!) of course not 100% scale, but we do not have the time for it and, a scale rc plane is always to heavy or verry hard to fly!

thanks for the color scheme and number from gynemer!! and johan... i hope it goes up in the air

Very interesting project. Where were teachers like you when I was going to school?

All the best.

Hello Johan,

You are very welcome.
The Morane L serial Nr. 39, piloted by Corporal Guynemer while in escadrille MS3
is an excellent choice. Thanks to Bruno for the color profile and links.

Please keep us up to date with your progress, we will be waiting.

I imagine that the design, lay-out, and building of the propeller must have been a real experience. I wish that I knew more about it.

Best Wishes, Jay

The good one?...

Hello,
IN my book "Guynemer, les avions d'un as", I can see the Morane L with these markings : MS 376. And this is the story of that day "Le lundi 19 juillet 1915 au matin, Geaorges guynemer décolle avec son mécanicien Charles Guerder à bord du Morane L MS 376. Après avoir poursuivi vainement un Aviatik, Guynemer aperçoit un autre appareil du même type volant à 3200 mètres en direction de Soissons. Dés qu'il a franchit les lignes, Guynemer pique dessus et le combat s'engage entre 20 et 50 mètres. Une balle érafle la main et la tête de Guerder qui atteint mortellement le pilote allemand au bout de 10 minutes."
This is his official first victory.
Sincerely,
Thierry.

My Gallery
Fabulous project.

Johann:
That is a fabulous project. I wish that the Junior High School I went to would have let us do something like that. We made door stops, cutting boards, etc. As I final project, I made a recurve yew wood bow and twenty arrows. That is tremendous.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
