I love The Aerodrome!
Gentlemen and Ladies,
I am making some room on my bookshelves. I have some books on WWI aerohistory that I intend to sell but I also have a handful that are sufficiently shopworn as to be in a condition that I would not ask anyone to pay for. Be that as it may, the books are in far too good a condition to be discarded so what I would like to do is make a gift of them to a young person ( I mean really young, as in School age ) to incourage them in this particular area of study.
I remember the difficulty I had as a teenager coming up with the money to buy books and I would be pleased to pass these along to the right person.
If you are that person or know of them please let me know.
Best regards,
Terry

Would you also consider giving them to a school library? As a kid I read all the war books at school many times over.

Terry, just a thought, Check your local library. I don't know where you live, but if it's "Small Town USA", like me; you probably have a better selection to throw away, than they have on the shelves! I don't have much in the way of references, but I have MORE than my local library! Seens they've been PC for 50 years! They get it when it's in vogue, then forget about it. Then when someone asks, we don't have that, is the stock reply. Just a suggestiom. JW

Terry,
My son just turned 9 the other day. To give you and idea of what he is like to live with, when his mom repainted his romm when he was four he insited that she paint a "sausage roast" mural on the wall, LOL. After I explained to her what that was she did so. His favorite t shirt to sleep in is a sz samll MvR t-shirt that I got for him here on the Aerodrome, and he now has sheets on his bed with Albatrii and Sop. Camels on them.
Would he appreciate these books? You bet!!! I have been searching for certain titles that I found meaningful for me as a kid in the 60's and 70's. He has a stockpile of Airfix kits we will be building to gether shortly.
If you haven't given them out already, he would be delighted beyond belief to recieve them. Please let me know.
Warren
PS: He's pretty stoked aobut going to the WWI Fly-In at Dayton this Sept.

Hi,
* Sounds like my room growing up. One wall dedicated to MvR, The others crammed with everything WW1 aviation, 23 planes hanging from the ceiling and wall shelves full of models. Somewhere I have some old photos. My Mother hated it, but my Father fueled my passion for old planes. He took me to Old Rhinebeck every summer. Even though he's gone the tradition continues with this being my 31st year going. Except now I take my two kids.
* When my son was born I got the chance to decorate his room. WW1 planes in a hand painted border with clouds, A pine Fokker D.VII shelf I made and some of those Homeco WW1 wall plaques that you always see on Ebay.
*Not to get way off subject his first books were "Snoopy and the Red Baron" and "Snoopy and his Sopwith Camel".
*Actually, I think its a great idea to donate your unwanted books to a library. Now that my daughter in 3rd grade, we spend some time at our local library trying to find *decent books for her reports. It's sad to think that we spent a fortune to revamp our library without spending a dime on books.
Best Wishes,
Steve

When my Father died we donated all his books to the local lib. If they really don't want them they will sell them and buy new PC books. That's Pol Correct not computer books.. But at least when you donate you can take it off your taxes.

Good folks of the forum,
Thank you all for your help and suggestions regarding this thread.
I have found a deserving kid and mailed the books. He should have them shortly.
I did not consider donating them to a library for two reasons;
1. As I said in the original post, they were not in great shape.
2. I had my opinion of library donations thoroughly jaundiced some thirty years ago when I happened upon library personel unceremoniously dumping cart after cart of books into a dumpster already almost full of them. They said that they were making room for new books. I nearly wept at the wanton waste of it.
Be that as it may, life has gone on and I now have a small library of my own and I've been able to share a little of it.
Thank you all again,
Terry
