Pfalz DIII.a 1306/18 revisited

Having discussed the colours of this Jasta 20 plane in a previous thread I still have some ‘grey’ areas I would like to see coloured in.

Here’s what I already have;
The fuselage is brown(chocolate-chestnut) with two light parts(most likely silver) on the underside.
The first part from the front undercarriage legs to the end of the lower wing roots(and also including the lower wingroots)
The second part under the tail wing.
The wings have lozenge upper sides and lozenge or natural linnen undersides.
Rudder and wheels are white

And now for the last part, the tail wing(or horizontal stabilizer).
How much likely would it be that this was painted white on both sides (like on one of Dan San Abbott’s colour-profiles of a Jasta 20 Pfalz)?
Most of the pictures I found didn’t give much away only on the side-view with Dutch markings(profile publications 43 and windsock datafile 21) it looks like it has at least a white upper surface.
Other options would be silver with lozenge elevators or brown on both sides.

Please help me out on this one.

Jasta 20 white tails.

Ries:
Both sides of the tailplane was painted white. Most of the Pfalz D.IIIa machines had the white tailplane with a red border about 75 to 100 mm wide surrounding the tailplane.

Dan-San,

thanks a lot for the info, I had not heard of the red border before.

here are a 2 renderings of how the aircraft should have looked like(already with Dutch roundels), one with lozenge on the wing undersides, the other with natural linnen.Red border along the tailplane still has to be added....




Although I think the natural linnen finish is a good possibility, I still believe the blotches on the underside of the wings in the pictures belong to a lozenge covering. Any comments are welcome.
