Gnome 9 Question

Hello everyone,

I need a little help from my fellow modellers out there. I'm trying to detail the back of the Gnome 9 engine and I can't seem to find any pictures of what it should look like. I have the tube in place on the back but have no idea what to put on it or around it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Here are some pictures so you can see where I'm at.....

Thanks for any help.

Mark

Greetings Mark;

I think there were some images on the replica thread some time back concerning the 160hp. There might be something on the WWI Modelers page image site. But Hugh Coleman taught me that the Gnome or Oberursel U.I did not have breather pipes on the obverse side of the cylinders.

Thanks for the plug Stephen!

Quite right. Monosoupape (sic) means literally, one valve.

The induction of the fuel air mix happened through the crank case and up either through a valve in the piston (on the earlier versions) or recesses in the bore such as you would see in a two stroke engine.
The Valve at the top of the cylinder is the exhaust.

I have a cutaway some where... hang on...

I have no idea where I picked this up from, so if I am treading on anybody elses copywrite, I apologize.

The magneto and spark plug lines are maybe what you are looking to add Mark.

Cheers,

Hugh

I understand now, the cylinder in the back is a mounting rod for the engine. Thanks Hugh.

German copy of Gnome

Here is a picture of the German copy of the Gnome, maybe this will help give you an idea. This was a 14 cylinder version that was not very successful.
