Greetings all,
I have seen various sources stating that the Eduard
Sopwith Camel is due out sometime this year. I also
heard that last year...Does anyone know when it is due this year? I'll probably buy at least two and combine one with my un-built Blue Max Camel for the RNAS version if it is not already included as an option in the Eduard kit.
Thanks,
RichMC1

Eduard have been showing box art work for this kit on their site. Also saw the same box art in SAMi the other day. I would say for sure we will see it this year. YEAH.

Hate to disagree, but a source on a WWI mailing list said he spoke to one of Eduard's managers recently and was told the 1/48 Camel would come out next year.

Sigh...

bummer the world needs an Eduard quality Camel and SE5a. I wouldnt be surprised if other companies like Roden, EE, Mac etc have held off on doing Camels and SE5a's as Eduard has had those two announced for an awful long time now.

Eduard have a dreadful habit of doing this. The Camel was announced in 1999 for release in 3Q 2000, and it's not the only Eduard product to miss it's release date by such a margin. When they first popped up in 96/97 they had a list of twenty or more subjects half of which have still not appeared. In the past couple of years they have contented themselves with recycling the same three or four kits in different boxes. And If reports that the P39/P400 is the best seller to date I for one am not holding my breath for anything new WWI product.

Oh well, it is as I suspected... I'll go ahead and build my Blue Max Camel and if I suffer enough in its construction just maybe on the day I finally complete it, the Eduard Camel will be released.

I'm beginning to suspect that Eduard is slowly but surely deserting W.W.1 modelling, not completely, of course, but they seem to be leaning more towards W.W.2 aircraft lately.
I suppose that they want to branch out in other areas of the hobby and probably make more money out of it.
Cant say that I blame them in a way, since how many modelers build W.W.1 kits- maybe l0 percent, if that.
Well, at least we still have Blue Max.

The Sopwith Camel WILL be out this year or early next year if there are any more major problems.
Our production had slowed down as we were concentrating on modenizing the company by getting new computers and new software. We also spent a lot of time on new technology for making moulds and perfecting them. This took a lot longer than we anticipated (a LOT longer!) and so we got slowed down. The up side is that we are now capable of doing a lot more and still keep up the profits. We have a lot of plans for the next couple of years and it should be very interesting. The Camel proved to be a lot harder than we thought it would be and the drawings we were using proved to be incorrect so we scrapped all the work we had done. We have now done our own drawings and researched all the exsisting Camels to get it right.
We were also working on the P-39 and the Bf-108 as well as other kits and they were worked on first because they bring in a lot more money than WWI aircraft do.
We will still be making WWI kits and we have just released a Fokker EIV in 1/72 and have more to follow (depending on sales). We will be doing more modern aircraft as they have much better sales but we will continue with WWI until you guys stop buying them.
I am a Canadian but I live in CZ. You can ask me questions but I do a lot of shows (17 last year) so I am not always here so you might have to wait for an answer. Dont ask about what kits we have planned as I wont tell you. Only kits that will be out in a few months will be announced. You can give me suggestions but be realistic! I can try and help with questions but I am mainly an armour modeler (sorry!) so dont get too technical.

Thank you Colin for coming here and passing this info on. Please dont be a stranger around here.

Are you open to suggestions that we might have for future WWI kits?

Cheers
