von Richthofen's Father's Date of Death
Does anyone know the exact date of death of Rittmeister Freiherr von Richthofen's father, retired Major Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen? I only know that he died in Schweidnitz in 1920 and would like to have his exact date of death. If anyone has the answer, please e-mail me at Feldpost@aol.com

yes, he could not hear well. he went to save a fellow solider in the river and it was cold, causing him to lose his hearing almost 100%.

Anybody have an idea of when Papa vR rescued the trooper? One source, IIRC, said it was from the Oder River.

yes, it was the oder river. it was after his 1st 3 children were born sadly...1 source says when they were very young. peter kilduff's book says the same pretty much. it was obviously between 1894 and 1903, probably in the beginning of the 20th century.

I also think this was a defining event in the life of Manfred. His father, inadvertantly but willingly, sacrificed his military career (and certainly some income) to save a subordinant. I think this formed Manfred's attitude of devotion toward both the men in his command and the common soldier in general.
