Vanishings!
The History Channel International is airing this series on Friday nights at 2300 hrs, Eastern time (USA), with two back to back episodes of 30 minutes each. The series is about people who disappeared and many are aviation related. Some of the subjects are well known, like Amelia Earhart.
Others are forgotten except by aviation history buffs, such as actress and P&O Shipping heiress Elsie Mackay, who vanished over the Atlantic in an attempted westward crossing in the Stinson Detroiter Endeavour, along with her copilot, Walter G.R. Hinchcliffe. Hinchcliffe had been a fighter pilot with the RNAS and RAF during the war (seven kills), had lost his left eye in action, and, despite that loss, had done a great deal of pioneer flying for KLM, Instone, and Imperial in the 1920's. All that was found of them was part of the Stinson's undercarriage, identified by the serial number on a B.F. Goodrich tire.
The series features a good deal of computer animation, as well photographs and footage besides the usual shots.
