AEG G.IV Info
Hey, Anybody out there have detail info on AEG's twin engine bomber? I have the Windsock Datafile and Squadron's book on the bombers but neither have the info I need. Looking for mainly info on the interior. (all three stands, Nose, pilot and rear gunner)

As I'm sure you know from reading the Windsock Datafile, the sole surviving example of this type can be found at the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa. Sadly, their image bank is currently down (Image Bank – Canada Aviation Museum). When it is functional again, you can find a number of good cockpit shots in their online collection. AEG. G.IV 574/18 is currently on display in the main hangar (unlike Junkers J.1 586/18) and is probably one of the best references available other than suitable period photographs. RCAF mechanics restored the aircraft in, if I recall, 1967. Fortunately they and their supervisors at the RCAF Historical Branch were keenly aware that the aircraft's value was (and is) derived from its originality. Thus the artifact that remains is relatively unmolested, at least when compared to other 1960s restorations. Cheers,

Thanks for the info. I did email the CAM and haven't heard back from them. I didn't know their image bank was down. I'll keep checking back. It's too bad the Canadians didn't publish a book on the restoation like the Smithsonian did on some of their restorations. Regards! Roger |

My pleasure to help. Its funny you mention the absence of such a text. I'm in the process of putting together a larger book on the topic of German aircraft allocated to Canada after the Great War. I hope to devote a chapter to the restorations of Fok. D.VII 6810/18 (in Knowlton, Quebec) and the AEG in Ottawa. In my research, I have found a good chunk of the documentation pertaining to both of these restorations. Cheers,
