Questions

I am thinking of buying my first model kit. A Nieuport 11. The thing that I want to know since most people here have done a couple of models in the past is, is there any painting technique that works best for a model plane. Any other pointers for a first time modeler will help alot. I just want my first to be better than I expect it to be. but i I know that the first one is always supposed to come out less than average but yeah. Any pointers? Oh yeah is there also any good paint kits for painting the model?

Greetings Nacho;

Welcome to the "Drome". There are some great modelers here. On thew subject of the Eduard 1/48 scale kit I have a website where I offer downloads and CD's of my builds to newer modelers. See my signature below. It may help with some of the rough spots.

As for the painting it pretty much will require both spraying and hand brushing. It depends on what your more familar with but if its Nieuports your looking to start with they are pretty straight forward. Here is a link to a free site on just that subject.

Eduard provides some of the masks you wiill need to do the edging tapes. Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

Hello Nachos, and welcome to the 'Drome.

There are certainly some very skilled modelers here, and I'm sure they each have a unique way of doing things.
Personally I paint with brush. I don't have an airbrush, and I don't really believe in them for WW1 models. I paint with preferably Polly Scale acrylics. These are very nicely flowing and painting in several thin and thinned layers give a fine result.
Painting a Nieuport in linen colour, it may be best to mix some light grey in the first couple of layers and then finish it off with a couple of unmixed layers.

Good luck, it's a grand hobby.

Thanks for the link on the Nieuports, Stephen.

Thanks.
