D VIII/ E.V Cockpit Combing

This is not really a camoflage or marking question, but do any of you have any good photos showing the cockpit combing, and how it was attached to the fuselage on the Fokker D VIII/ E.V?

I am working on my 1/4 scale model and getting close to that point and have conflicting information.

Thanks,
Dale

Look on Achim web site, he may have that done on his full size D.vIII. Also one of the threads here has pictures of Roger Freeman's Fort Rucker D.vIII.

One thing that is always over looked is the padding in the wing cut-out section.

Sorry cannot be of more help. Is it a GTM kit? If not, check out the GTM web site.

Please do post some picture of you model. We love to see them.

Cheers,
WF2

Thanks for the ideas anyway. I have been following Achim's build, and he hasn't got to that part yet. At least not that I have seen.

I have photos of the Freeman E.V at Ft Rucker (That is the plane thet got me interested in the D VIII/ E.V). I also have photos of the D VIII now owned by Kermit Weeks at Fantasy of Flight. They are done completely different.

By the way, I don't think either of the above have padding in the wing cut out.

Dale- Here you go. Looks like it was very similar to the Dr.I with half on the front aluminum panel and half on the fuselage. I also have one of the forward fuselage showing the front coaming, windshield and MGs if you are interested.

Dale- View forward of unpainted E.V/D.VIII with wing removed apparently. Windscreen apparently fits through a slot in the removable aluminum panel. I would not copy anybody's repro. Better to use real photos.

Thanks, Taz. That will do what I need. However, even in the Udet photos vs. the unpainted bird, there seems to be a diffference.

On the Udet combing, the stitching holding the combing to the fuselage is clearly visable, front and rear. However, on the "unpainted" version, it appears the the front combing is rolled and attached underneath in some way. Freeman's is the latter method, the Weeks plane is the former.

BTW, WF2, the padding on the wing cutout is clearly visable on the Udet plane.

I'm going with the Udet photo set up.

Thanks, again

Dale

Good information here. Which opens to another question;

How was the wing cut-out padding attached??
