Forumites... Would There Be Any Interest...
...in getting together now and again in a chat room to discuss our favorite topic? I'm a fan of Paltalk. It's a free chat program with very good sound for voice. We've used this place to broadcast from my club for a couple years and I spend quite a bit of time in the political debate rooms.
My idea is that I would set up a room for WW1 Aero fans and we could decide on a prescribed weekly time to meet up and explore the topic, live and in person. Truthfully, I've been just amazed by the passion and depth of knowledge so many of you show and I'd love to be able to "put a voice to the name".
So I put the question to you all: Is This Something That Folks Would Participate In? Thanks.

Wow! Such quick response. I love it.
Ok, lem'me add a couple questions on here then...
1) What shall we name the room? Would it be in "bad form" to call it "The Aerodrome"? If not, fine. Otherwise, what WOULD be a good name for a chat room?
2) When would be considered the best time for us to agree to meet up? I'd love to agree on a time that would best accommodate the US and European folks. Of course, if folks wanted an ongoing room, I would be willing to leave it open (mostly) 'round the clock. That's how many of the rooms work in paltalk; people come and go all day and night.
Besides real time discussion an added benefit might be that we'll pick up new (as yet unknown) fans of this stuff.
I'll check in through the day and try and get the vibe for what we should name the room, then go ahead and set it up. Then I'll come back and put the links for paltalk, the freeware and our room info.
I think this could be REAL fun for us all!

Would there be any interest..........................
Try "The hangar". That's where most of the aviation talk takes place on an aerodrome.

If a chat facility was brought in, it would be a good idea to have a locked basement room for the Off-Topic crowd to superate in....

As much as I enjoy the OT section, I wouldn't do a chat room full of it. Too much. OT is already enough.
I'd be interested in such a room once per week or so, especially if the topic was announced in advance. We might consider only one room with one topic for everyone. Fragmenting too much early on may defeat the purpose with too few folks to go around.

Interesting thought?
Jan:
It sounds interesting, would it be moderated? My concern is, is it worth my time? I am not interested in getting into a debate about politics. If the subject was WW1 aviation, that would be great. You said talk, I don't know what is involved here, how do you hook up a mike to a computer?

Coming soon to The Aerodrome Forum: Userplane (a fitting name, don't you think?)
Just waiting for the developer to release the vBulletin plugin.
