Dr.1 127/17 and 477/17

Afternoon all,

Does anyone know what happened to/or who flew Richthofen's Fokker Dr.1's 127/17 and 477/17 after his death? I know 152/17 was lost during the Berlin bombing raid in 1944. Any help is most appreciated.

Please feel free to move this post to its proper location.

dpc- I cannot give you a definite answer to your question because I have no photographic or other primary source material to show where MvR's two surviving Dr.Is went. What we can say, though, is that JG I began reequipping with Fokker D.VIIs shortly after MvR's death. Some of the excess Dr.Is went to Jasta 4 for a short period until sufficient D.VIIs became available, some to Jasta 5, and some in ones or twos to other Jastas. It appears several may have gone to JG II, who used Dr.Is until late June, when Idflieg ordred them returned to the Armee Flugpark units. Large numbers of Dr.Is, including some new ones, went to the various Jagdstaffelschule (Jastaschule) units for fighter training.

I have never seen photos of either Dr.I post-JG I. I would guess 127/17 was probably used up and written off and 477/17 was passed on to another unit, but have no way of knowing precisely.

Hi dpcmodels:

All I can add is I show a reference to Dr.I 127/17 had gone to Jasta 32b and Dr.I 477/17 was also flown by Ltn. Gottlieb von Conta some time between Feb18 - 23Mar18 and like Taz said J11 transfered their Dr.I's on May 20 to J5.

I believe that Dr.I 477/17 either was shot down or was destroyed by the armistice. 477/17 would have been a better choice for the Zeughaus museum in Berlin since MvR had 9 victory's in this mount then the 3 victory's in 152/17.
