The Library of Congress has its pictures as follows:
- with or without preview (don't know why LC does this)
- downloadable (several formats) or not downloadable
- it is always possible to order copies (at cost)
The scans of the LC are unretouched scans of the original print or glass plate, so most of the times there are scatches or markings made by the picture journalists of those times. They make it a policy to scan 'is as'. After that you can always do all sort of Photoshop actions, but the original remians unaltered in the files of the LC.
There is a professional company who sells retouched (photoshopped) pictures of the Library of Congress on
Old Pictures. These pictures can be bought by them in different sizes.
