Aircraft Serials Numbers

Bonjour a tous

I see that in The 'Aircraft serial numbers' section of the Aerodrome, many known serial numbers about French escadrilles are missing-For example in his book "French air Service War Chronology 1914-1918" Rbailey gives a lot of serial numbers with pilot name etc. Idem concerning the"les escadrilles de l'aéronautique militaire francaise" by SHAA
I would try to complete the list(in cooperation with those are intersted ) and just would know the proceedings for doing that

Cordialement
Bruno

I would join the project since its a very good source for british serial numbers and i use it very frequently. For German planes i guess its a bit underrepresented Especially for German 2 seater serial numbers.
We should define then what is a valid source for the numbers we collect.

I would suggest only to add numbers that have benn published somewhere before and are just missing. Numbers from private collection photos would bear a too great risk of misinterpretation if not examined by experts here in the forum. Would also be a too time consuming

best regards
Kilian

There is a lot in both the aces and the aircraft sections that is incomplete. It would be great if some knowledgeable volunteers could add to the sections according to their interests.

One caution, if you would like to add information found in a single source, you should check with the author first, since you are sharing their research.

For those interested in french Service des Fabrications de l'Aviation serial numbers, Albin Denis is starting to compile them (aircraft types at the bottom of the page):

Hello gilles

Albin is doing a great job as I can see
(I know him through Rittmeister'site to which I belong)
May be we should work together
Another great source for serial number is the book by Bailey (french claims and casualty day par day-dont remember exact title)
Is it possible to have the entire list of existing serial numbers in theaerodrome
under word or excel format ?

Cordialement

Salut Bruno!

I send you my Excel file on french serials, mostly from SHAA book and Faswc.
I think that faswc serials are of german origin. I read somewhere that the german army published the serials of downed EAs.

On the Nieuport page of Michael Fletcher you will find also a very extensive listing of Nieuport serials and of course all sort of other Nieuport things.
