Lt John Oscar Pilkington

AMII H F Mathews was flying as the observer in FE 2d B1895 of No 20 Sqn RFC, with Lt John Oscar Pilkington, aged 25 and from Maghull, Lancashire, as pilot, when both airmen were killed in action on 6 September 1917. B1895 had left Ste-Marie-Cappel aerodrome on an Offensive Patrol at 1435 and was over Boesinghe when it was shot down in flames. Ltn Werner Voss of Jasta 10 claimed an FE over Boesinghe at 1535; it was the 42nd of Ltn Voss's total of 48 victories before his death in action on 23 September 1917.

When equipped with the FE 2d, No 20 Sqn was a two seater fighter unit. I am trying to trace a photograph of Lt Pilkington and Airman H F Mathews or any information on 20th sqdn at this time

any help would be most welcome
cheers

Steve
