Does anyone here have a good grasp on medal values?
I have a superb Imperial German medal (with case and shipping carton) I would like valued.
I've had it in my collection for 2 yrs now. I'm thinking of selling to make way for new items.
I will let you know what the medal is on reply.
Cheers

Consider this a reply ! Tough to assign a value without knowing the medal.
As you know, EK I's (around $150) are common and Military Max Joseph's (several thousand $) are not.... The in "betweeners" usually run anywhere from a cuple hundred to about $600 with some, like a Saxon Military St. Henry pushing $1,000. You'll see some websites which are about double these prices, but I think on the "open" market you'll find
these right in the ballpark.
Your turn..........

The medal in question - The Knights Cross with Swords of Hohenzollern House Order, in fine condition. As mentioned, comes with the side by side case with the outer shipping carton.
Any clue to the currant value?
Cheers

Source: VERNON'S COLLECTORS' GUIDE TO ORDERS, MEDALS AND DECORATIONS by Sydney B. Vernon (1995 edition, so make allowances for inflation). Prices in US dollars.
Knight with swords (gold) - $ 675.00
Knight with swords (silver/gilt) - $ 275.00
ditto but also with swords on ring - rare
ditto but only with swords on ring - rare
If it's silver/gilt with no enamel defects I can tell you to expect closer to $600 for it. I would not let the price charged by a particular US dealer define what you will get since the once I am think of is my baromete of the value of things - I halve his prices....
They are getting pretty difficult to find and I expect the closer we get to the anniversary (2014), the higher the value. If yuo're patient, you can probably make out better in a few years....
