Aviatik colors
After seeing those great museum photo's of the surviving Aviatik DI I wanted to compare them to the black and white photo's of the 30.40 to see if the colors were the same. The Airdrome model plan I have has the colors as dark green and yellow ochre. Henri Kaper from over at the rc scale builder web site was kind to make the color photo a black and white. Here are the results. All comments are welcome. Looks to me like the yellow ochre is out.

It is not easy to recognize correct color from the black and white image. Also type of film and quality of chemicals used are also vital for the appearance of the image. There should be mentioned also light conditions and settings of the camera. problem is nicely described bellow:
Have to note that there is special plug in for Photoshop which could precisely convert color image into the black and white.
But for sure your image look very interesting.

Aviatik colors
Thanks Sreiko, I do realize all of that. Was hoping to get more feed back to the idea of the yellow ochre color. Cheers!

Could you post the color picture. I can process it to resemble an ortho B&W print.

Not much difference
John,
There's not much difference between my orthochromatic emulator and your B&W photo because its just beige & silver we are dealing with.
What is your Methuen code for "Dark Green" that you want to use?

Aviatik colors
Well Jan, that is part of the problem. I don't have any codes for the colors. The Airdrome model plan shows "Stinson green". That idea came from a Phoenix D.II according to the plan. I think the Museum photos of the Aviatik D.I would be the correct color for the 30.40 also. I guess they got the "ochre" color idea from the Phoenix D.II also. I don't think "ochre" is correct for the 30.40 either. Guess I need to get a hold of the first edition of Austro-Hungarian Army Arcraft of World War One but it is selling for $200. which is kind of steep. I have the second edition which has no color informationat all. Thaks for your time.

Berg Museum Photos
John
I've seen the Berg photos on the World War I Modeling Page page in light grey / dark grey. What confuses me is that Windsock published a set of photos in the May/June 1994 issue that show the Berg in tan / dark green
Are the differences in the two sets due to lighting? camera?
Has anyone seen the actual aircraft??

Yes, I was in Vienna 2 weeks ago but the picture i took from a cell phone doesn't really do justice to the colors because of the lighting. time also fades things. i attach one of two photos sent in a thread "budapest and vienna" in the "museums" section of the forum.

Aviatik colors
Thanks guy's. Can't argue with the Vienna museum photo's and Methuen codes. Light and film can always cause different huges and everyons eyes are different. Jan, can you show me methuen 28F6 and 4c6?
