Don't know how old this info is, but stumbled across it today and it was news to me.

There is also some research being done in Germany on some personal items of Manfred's that have been discovered. The articles have been damaged by water and fire. The researchers believe that the Nazis were responsible for burning the items. It was pure luck and probably climate that made the fire not completely burn the items. Among the items were a Tri-Fokker airplane, and several crates of items that had photos, film photo footage, and some of the journals, which are being repaired. This is not commonly known information. Also the persons who helped them find the items requested that certain American and British historians not be allowed to work on the project. The fact that the Nazis would burn personal information about Manfred von Richthofen gives a very strong impression that they did not believe that they could use a man like him. Some of Oswald Boelcke's possessions were also reported to be among the items too. Also Manfred von Richthofen was a very close friend of Werner Voss and his family, the Voss family were practicing Lutherans, but there was a portion of the family that was Jewish. That also does not follow Nazi party ideaology. Manfred von Richthofen held that friendship and loyalty as very important to him.
