Identifying plane from photo

Hi there,

While sorting through my late grandfather's photos, a couple of 1st world war photos came to light, one of which was of a chap standing in front of a large biplane. My grandfather was too young for this (although he served with the RAF as an engineer in the second world war, initially stationed with Douglas Bader before being shipped to Africa and Tripoli), but we are wondering whether it was another relative.

After doing some hunting yesterday, I was pretty sure the plane looked like a Handley Page bomber or transport, but now I'm not so sure - the nose looks too rounded. The plane is in British markings, but the uniform worn looks more American or Canadian.

So, can anyone identify the plane? And by any chance, can anyone help figure out where the plane might have been based so that I can figure out who the photo might be of? The tail number is K3160.

Cheers,
Steve.

edit: someone has identified the plane as being a Vickers Valentia, which certainly looks more likely. And that it was used in the middle East and Africa in the 1930s, so probably not 1st world war after all. And the Africa link might tie it with my grandfather.

Looks like a Vickers Valencia, a transport from the 1930's and into the begining of WW II in the middle east, where it was fitted out as an emergency bomber. Much later than the WW I period.
