Hi Dave, It has a lot of similarities going on with different makes. Is it a Farman type? Thanks, FOKKERJ

No Farman here - this is an American bird.

Hi Eric, That makes sense as America likely would have drawn from combat proven aeroplanes of the time. Thanks, FOKKERJ P.S. It could be a Curtiss project.

This is the Burgess Type O (Gunbus) pusher biplane of which 25 machines were bought by the RNAS, numbers 3657 to 3681.
I do not think the machines were very succesfull because all 25 of them were deleted in May 1916, some after very little use. All were used at Hendon, probably for training.

Kees has it right, and the reason I selected the Burgess “Gunbus”. A number of these machines were acquired by the RNAS, but proved unsuitable. Based on Owen Thetford’s BRITISH NAVAL AIRCRAFT SINCE 1912, 36 Gunbuses were purchased and given serial numbers 3657 – 3681 and 8258 – 8268, a small difference with the source used by Kees.
