Is there any reference source I can use to find out anything about this pilot? Maybe he's WWII? I was told WWI, but the person isn't sure.

Yank44,

I have a book on all the holders of the Pour Le Merite from 1914 to 1918. He was not listed there.

Sorry,
Phil

Yank- He was not a Jasta pilot and did not die in WW-I. Afraid you will have to give us a few more hints. Why the interest and what do you know about him? Pilot, observer?

I was looking at a flying helmet with his name written in it and wanted to see if it was genuine. Below is an image from the person who is selling it. Once again, thanks for your help.

Please ask for a picture of the written name - perhaps I can read it then?!

Hi,

the pilots name is Gathmann. Deutzen is a small town in Saxony, most probably the hometown of the pilot.

Mate,
Your desk looks like mine. I thought that I had the original. Guess not.
