Roden Alb. D.III Review

The May, 2007 issue of Fine Scale Modeler features nice reviews of both the 1/32 Roden Alb. D.III and the 1/72 Eduard " Flyboys " Nieuport 17.

Cool. Although I subscribe to FSM I did not get the newest issue yet. For some reason they have them at the hobby shops and book stores before subscribers get them in the mail.

THE GOOD DOCTOR who does EVERY WWI Build for FSM, I had the pleaseure to meet last year at the IMPS Nalt. Convention KC. Very nice Man. Very Good Old School Modeler. He had a lot of comments regarding this kit, Warning to check the Fit on the Upper Deck Cowling to fuselage, some advice on connecting the Raditor plumbing and about using a Wing Jig to get the top wing on. Bottom line you might miss it if you blink is HE really Liked this Kit and recommended it.

For those of you who already have the kit, How couldnt have felt any other way about it right ? But its nice to see a well manufactuered and designed product pass muster and recieve an offical seal of approval. He did a really nice job on it and it shows for what is AN OOB Build. I wish they had more photos of it.

Yours Mike

SAM, too

There is a 'good' review of the Eduard 1/72 Nie. 17 in Scale Aviation Modeller mag also. Nice project, making models of some specific birds flown by the Lafayette boys. Some of the profiles that follow the article are 'iffy' to my eye (RFC Nieuports w/ Vickers MGs. - I have not seen a photo of this yet) Anyway, the reviewer gives high praise to the Eduard kit - rightfully so in my humble opinion. I'll have to get a copy of the FSM issue.

Got my FSM finally!

Got my issue of FSM a couple of days ago, and liked both reviews, although the pink tires on the Nieuport look silly to me. He went with a pencil eraser pink, they probably should be much grayer in my oppinion. Also I thought that only Germans used pink tires. anyone know of any French or British tires that were that color (especially on a Nieuport 17)? None of the aircraft in the flyboys movie had pink tires! Also the reviewer complained about the bogus markings provided with the kit, and gave that as a con about the kit, but if he read the box top, it is the FLYBOYS Nieuport 17! The markings are correct for 4 aircraft used in the movie. Not sure why people continue to give Eduard a bad rap about the Flyboys decals, if they want authentic decals wait until they reissue the kit in a different box, the 1/48 scale version came out in at least 4 different versions (not including the special decal Russian versions) The Flyboys kit is a good effort on Eduard's part to link to a commercial movie with all the copyrights involved with motion picture advertising & licencing, and I for one commend them for taking the plunge into a major Hollywood licencing agreement.

The reveiwer of the Nieuport credits the "Pink" Rbbuer color tires to a Specific note in the Eduard Instructions about early tire production to paint them pink-ish. He mixed two colors Red and Fleash I think to get that "Pink".
Ahh-well ? I kinda agree but wha the heck ? He's got to know already he bought a "FLyboy" Version. I staty away cause of Personal Issues I have with that production. NOT just cuase there hasnn't been a WWI Air Combat Movie for more than 20 yrs will I fawn over that movie for being a WWI Movie alone. I agree get AM Decals and go for it. I think thats what the reveiwer was getting at? That the Indian Haed was the closest Part of the BOx Decals he could apply which looked somewhat like a real Nieuport without the Moive markings.
