Bruno Loerzer after WW1.

Hello,

Can anyone tell me more about the career of Bruno Loerzer after WW1. I only know that he was a friend of Hermann Goering and that he was promoted to Generaloberst.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jos,

Try this link:

http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/

Select 'Luftwaffe' in left hand column, then 'Generaloberst', and lastly ' Loerzer, Bruno'.

Loerzer was considered to be an above average pilot and leader during WWI. Although it is often said that his friend Hermann Göring had much influence on his military career, it must be remembered that it was Loerzer who led Jagdgeschwader III, at a time when Göring was commander of Jasta 27, a component squadron of the organization.

regards,

Darren

p.s., Bruno Loerzer is another pilot in desperate need of a dedicated biography - any takers?

Hi again,

Here are a couple of photos with Göring and Loerzer together (Loerzer on right in both photos). Yes, they were good friends (flying together as 'Franz' and 'Emil' in the early days), but I believe that Göring's influence on his career did not occur until the 1930's. This is not unusual, as most all of the 'old eagles' benefited in some way from their association with the deputy leader of the Third Reich and former PLM ace. It is purported that Loerzer had a serious drinking problem, making him an ineffective leader during the Second World War.

regards,

Darren

No need to apologize Hannes. That's a very worthy photograph for this discussion. Thanks for sharing it! Again, good luck with your book - I'm sure that it will be well received.

regards,

Darren
