Roden DVIII markings question...

Gang--

I am about to tackle a 1/72nd Roden DVIII and just wondering if the markings for the Polish and Dutch birds are correct?

Thanks,
From the Factory on the hill,
John

Hey John post a scan. I don't do 1/72 so I can't give an opinion on the profiles provided.

Sorry Stephen---no scanner here, but I'll desribe it briefly...

Fok. E.V 214/18 Polish air force, Julian Jasinski, 1920...

Polish squares only over 4-color lozenge...olive green rudder, cowling, gun deck, and wing.

This goes the same for the Dutch craft except it's Fok. D.VIII 509/18 and has the Dutch orange roundels...

How about the 'Life-Like Hobby Kit' question?

From the Factory on the hill,
John

Hey John!

I Just saw your PM on the subject of Life-Like. First The PM:

When Pyro decided to get out of the modeling business they leased their molds to Life-Like. It began in 1972 and the boxes were almost identical. They were available for about 1-2 years in various LHS and Gibson's stores in the USA. The pertinent kits were the 1910 Bleriot Monoplane and the 1911 Bristol Boxkite. Both kits were in 1/48 scale. They were then again re-issued in 1974-76.

Since the molds were leased they did not go to Lindberg when Life-Like closed its doors.

Next the Roden kit profiles:

Fokker D.VIII 502/18 was one of the late production airframes that was accepted by Germany then given back to Fokker in lieu of payment and was included in the inventory when he "moved" to Holland. There are a image of it in Dutch markings in the old Profile series. I did an early Eduard 1/48 kit #8001 in this scheme. I am sure you are aware of the possible wing camouflage options that have been discussed in recent years.

Fokker E.V 214/18 Sounds ok but will have to do a bit of checking.

Hey Stephen,

I recently ran across a discussion of camouflaged wings on Fokker D.VIII's. It's news to me! What's up? I would appreciate any information on this subject. Thanks Jay Swartz

John,

I've built that nice little kit 3 years ago. My opinion: don't use the Roden lozenge decals. Not good, and really poor quality.

Greetings from Belgium
Daniel.

Thanks Daniel---I'll use some Eagle Strike for that...and I'll follow Dan San's research and use the 'four color' streaky wing colors...Violet & turquoise for the bottom and I have a nice chestnut and Fokker olive for the top. Yes, they may not match Methuen or be perfect, but after all...

...it's only a model...

From the Factory on the hill,
John
