I have been studying a photograph of a crashed Breguet XIV from Escadrille Br.127 that has the winged Elephant insignia on the side of the fuselage. There is a legend painted along the top of the insignia, but it isn't clear enough or contrasty enough to determine what the exact saying or slogan is. It resembles as near as I can make out: "La Pouf Verdier" or something like that. Gregoire, Ludovic, or any other of our French comrades clarify this for me?
Merci,
Cigogne

The unit was created in april 17 as PS 127 flying paul Smitch bomber, it is credited with the destruction of 3 planes (remember it was a bomber unit) it was first part of GB3 then of GB5
during the war it had 2 insigna the first one was a winged elephant on wheels droping bomb the tail is wearing a tricolor flag and the elephant trump represent the exhaust of the breguet, it was on a blue circle, it was latter changed to a tiger
the unit converted in november 17
if you can scan and post me a copy of the picture I can try to make it out

I have received the picture and try to make the sentence the first world look to be poule (the female chiken) it is also slang expresion for women a bit like bird in english
for the second word it look like verte (green) I must say that I have try to find the letter and make a word in french so you will have somethink somethink like the green chicken (I have been looking at a few picture of Br14 for that unit and it is definitively a personal marking do you have an approximate date of the crash (I will look for french casualty at this date)

Gregoire:
Thanks for the info. I appreciate your help in deciphering the legend. Keep me posted.
Matt:
Sorry, can't post to site. Don't have permission from photo owner to do that.
