Why is the Flying Models topic dying here?

This forum was much more active, as little as 1 year ago. The only change was combining the flying models topic with all modeling. Is this the cause of the slow down of the flying model thread? If not, what do you think is the cause?

dying

Mode One, I have realized this also. I think alot of us use the RCSB web site for sharing our builds initially and then post stuff here. I have encouraged a few to post on the Aerodrome and introduced a few to the "flying models section". It may just be a timing issue since most of the builders were and are using the RCSB site and other sites first. If we allow ourselves to get caught up in posting stuff on web sites we would never get any projects finished. Actually, There are only about a half dozen WW1 builds going on over at RCSB. There are more from other countries posting on the RCSB also. I think most people see The Aerodrome as THE place to find accurate information to use for building our models. Times change and people get caught up in other things as well.

WWI build posting

Hi Lucky,

I've joined a few forums and although I would like to post in several, I just don't have the time, and when I do, I can't be sure that I can keep current with the info I'd like to put up, but I try. Posting not only shares info, but if successful, can generate useful comments and techniques that I, and others might benefit from.

I have found that his forum has a focus that attracts me and hopefully builders like myself. I'd like to share build details on a 1/4 scale Roland C.II. Where, in this forum should such thread be started and do think readers here would be interested?

Vern

VNulk,
At the top of this page, you should see:
The Aerodrome Forum > WWI Aviation > Models > Flying Models
Click on Flying Models.

You can start your post there. When you first log in to the Aerodrome Forum you can access the different forums by clicking Forums, under Navigation, just to the left of the list of recent threads.

I am sure that a lot of people would enjoy seeing whatever you have to share about your Roland, especially the construction of the fuselage.

Vern,
Do your Roland C.II and I'll do my Junkers D.I, but I won't have any material for public release until a couple of months, maybe by May.
Everyone, yes its a 1/4 scale Junkers D.I and with the metal corrugation. Its going to have a Zenoah G38 engine, 86" span, Futaba 50mhz gear. Since I have the day off, I was investigating the corrugation roller die design & making a material list of metal stock to buy. This effort is the culmination of 4 years of research that I have done on the Junkers aircraft (Vern, how many years for you, 13?)
I actually like TheAerodrome better because the software/server combination runs way faster than RCScaleBuilder.com!

Looking forward to seeing the C.II and D.1 progress here. I'll have some pics of my Fokker E.IV to add soon as well.

I too get frustrated with how slow RC Scale Builder runs most of the time, but there is still a lot more activity there. Keep posting here, and maybe a little tid-bit now and then on RCSB to have them come here for a look. I look at The Aerodrome as more of a SIG when it comes to scale modeling. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I for one like to look at what the WWII and other scale guys are up to as well.

Keep posting away!

Hey Jan Man

Good to hear from you. So you're gonna keep us in suspense for a while eh? Well if we can keep the interest up on the thread, I bet there'll be a crowd interested in a Junkers D.I. I'm sorry to hear you've been working on the corrugation technique for so long. I just threw out about 20 lbs of it last week.

Kidding aside, I understand what a project it is to fabricate the metal siding and it will be exciting to hear how you've accomplished the task. Are you planning to turn the rollers yourself or have you found somewhere to farm it out? Do you have any idea of the thickness of material yet? I may be jumping the gun but I'm very interested in your project already.

Yes, I spent a while getting the materials together for the Roland but relocating to the North Shore of Boston left me without a drafting board or workshop for many years. I could only dream about how I would get back to work on the plane beginning in earnest only about a year and a half ago. It's still slow going but progressing and a lot of fun - especially to share and get ideas from forums such as this. In that regard, I'll start posting soon.

Hey Jan - got any rare Roland photos?

See ya'll soon,

Vern
