hello everyone,
recently I came accross these two pictures of the Pfalz D.IIIa(1306/18,Jasta 20) interned by the Dutch.
In Greg van Wyngarden's book of Pfalz Scouts it says the Jasta 20 plane's fuselage was probably dark brown all over,
does anyone know what tone of dark brown I should think of?
The book also says that the wings were probably lozenge covered, that's not my opinion as they look silver doped in the pictures(also in other pictures before the Dutch markings were applied).
Common habit was that the national markings were overpainted, either with orange discs or a matching colours
(in this case the cross on the rudder was overpainted in white)and the rest of the plane was left untouched.
Some interesting points I like to mention are the light part below the tailplane, this also looks to be silver, and the light part between the front of the lower wingroot and the forward undercarriage strut.
When 'lightening' the picture a bit you can see that the part of the fuselage between the lower wings also has a light colour.

Could this be silver as well and how far backward did it extend?
The Dutch registration for this plane was PF225 probably followed by something like M160, M for the Mercedes engine and 160 for it's horsepower.
Couldn't find it on the pictures though........
Answers and comments are welcome.
Cheers,
Richard
