Nice instant Sanke collection. The price really is not that bad considering what it would cost to find and purchase each of the cards individually.

Russ- Price is less than $20/sanke and that is a bargain. Some of the Sanke's in the collection can be picked up for $10 or so, but some would run $100 individually. It would probably cost 2-3 times this price to put this collection together starting from scratch.

Less than you paid ...
.... for your car, it'll last ten times as long and appreciate in value instantly (not to mention what they will be going for in 2014-2018). Besides, what are we talkin' here Russ ? ONE PAINTING ?

Maybe so, BUT (and this is the crux), much, much harder to justify to my wife. Especially when she wants a new car for herself and a screen porch added to the back of the house.

The card of Wintgens has a signature... if it is really his, then it is also a factor in the price. A real PLM flier's signature!

Hello Cigogne,
unfortunately it is not an original signature. Wintgens signature is on all Sanke cards with number 378.

Man, I would like to get an original O'Neal on eBay for 16.99...or maybe for that much he'd sign my Chinese copy!!
Hope to see you in Meadowlands, Mike!
The problem with these Sankes is the collectors who beat each other up on eBay for 35 - 95 each, and then dump them when the chase goes out of it. When was the last time you saw a kid at a show with his collection of Sankes? Will history will still be on the curriculum by 2014?

To be a collector of militaria these days you have to have deep pockets. In many ways I think this hurts young people with an interest in history and a desire to own a piece of it. When something as trivial as an Iron cross or a victory medal cannot be had for under $100 where can young people start. The big bucks hurt any hobby. In the end, Sanke cards IMO are overpriced for a common mass produced paper item with nothing really historically unique about them.
