Colin has it, though I am in strong agreement with Breguets assessment.

It is pictired in its initial form prior to its first flight on March 21, 1918. It was the US Navy's first fighter.

As a result of 'experience' gained in the first flight, the HA was modified. On its second test flight it caught fire in the air. Fortunately the pilot was able to return the craft to the surface of the water, and both he and his passenger escaped.

Curtiss HA (A2278)

Burned out in flight 7 August 1918; recovered and soc 17 September 1918.

Although the machine was a lousy flyer, judging from the pictures I personally think the machine had a fine look .
