k.u.k. Gotha Bombers

Hello gsoutham, According to the book "Austro-Hungarian Army Aircraft in World War One," by Peter Grosz, George Haddow and Peter Schiemer, the Austro-Hungarians purchased a total of 39 Gotha G.IV (LVG) from Germany between December 1917 and April 1918. During March and April 1918 Fliks 101/G, 102/G and 103/G were equipped with them. These bombing units operated only on the Italian Front. They never served on the Russian Front.

Please visit my website www.Warchron.com and see the newly revised Forum area, which now offers more extensive coverage of aviation on the Russian Front 1914-1917 and all aspects of the Russian Civil War period 1918-1922. Cheers, agblume

On the Russian front two-seat C-type aircraft were used for most bombing duties. There were some twin-engine types like the AEG G.I-II, Friedrichshafen G.II, as well as Rumpler G.I-III, and rare Albatros G-types. None of these were built in large quantities.

There were also some R-type (Riesenflugzeuge = Giant aircraft) of the Siemens-Schuckert type R.II-VII as well as the German Navy's RML.1.
