Le Rhone 9J/Oberursel Ur.2

Hello all,

I've got a question considering the above mentioned engines;
was it possible on these engines to reverse the cranckcase(or to mount the engine endplates the other way around)?
If so, was this actually done in practice?

What?

More than feasibility of solution, intrigues WHY you asked for...

Short answer is NO, I think. There were too many liaisons to do that.

But, again, what should be the reason to do that, in your opinion.

The Le Rhone/Oberursel nine-cylinder rotaries were used only in 'tractor' configuration, as far as I know - to have used them as 'pushers' would have necessitated the reversal of thrust washers/bearings, methinks. The most popular 'pusher' rotary was the Gnome Monosaupape, which powered the Vickers FB.5 'Gunbus' and Airco DH2 among others.
